The Sandwich Boardwalk
The Sandwich Boardwalk crosses Mill Creek and the marsh, leading to the Town Neck Beach on Cape Cod Bay. About 1350 feet in length, Gustavus Howland constructed the Boardwalk in 1875 for $500. He was the son of Ellis Howland who built the Sandwich Town Hall. It has been rebuilt several times over the years after falling victim to hurricanes, blizzards and other weather events. The Sandwich Boardwalk was chosen by National Geographic as one of the “Top 10 Boardwalks in the US.”
